Day 2: Discover Helsinki by Bike
Helsinki Highlights by Bikes is an entertaining and easy-going 3-hour orientation to the major attractions of Helsinki. We visit the market places to meet the local people and let you hear the history of our nation through the beautiful and unique architectural mix that only Helsinki can offer. We cycle through our city giving you time for sightseeing and shopping. Quiet green spaces are also not forgotten, that is what Helsinki is all about! Travelling by bike is a sustainable way to see the city.
Day 3: Free Day in Helsinki
Today you have a free day to do your own thing. If you wish you could go to Porvoo for example. The city is one of the oldest in Finland, which is reflected in its medieval town plan and old wooden houses. Porvoo old town with its beautiful river scene is part of the national landscape of Finland. Alternatively you could visit the Liesjarvi National Park to experience the pristine nature or discover the scenic peninsula of Porkkalanniemi. All these can be added as extra tours to your Active Finland Adventure package. Please contact us for more information and prices.
Day 4: Helsinki to Turku by Train, Turku City Tour
It’s time to say goodbye to Helsinki and travel to Turku by train. In the morning your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the railway station for your departing train. On arrival in Turku another driver is waiting for you at the station and will take you directly to your hotel in the centre of Turku.
After some free time you will do a walking tour of Turku, the oldest town in Finland. Turku is a vibrant modern city with an 800-year history. You will be walking through the history of Finland from medieval to modern times and learn more about Finnish history, the people of Turku and their way of life. Turku has always been an international town with close trade connection to cities around the Baltic Sea. The proximity to the world’s largest archipelago and the beautiful river Aura give this town a touch of flair. You will see some of the best spots in Turku and hear about the history and current times in this beautiful city.
Day 5: St. Olav's Bike Tour
Hop on a eBike and discover the medieval pilgrimage route through the Finnish archipelago. On the route you can experience the magical archipelago, feel the warm-hearted atmosphere of the old town of Parainen and taste the delicious local delicacies. We will travel back from Nauvo via boat allowing you to relax, sunbathe and enjoy the charming scenery of hundreds of islands. The riding distance is approximately 65km and the duration of the day is about 9 hours.
Day 6: Free Day, Overnight Train to Rovaniemi
Today you have a free day to just relax and look around in Turku. If you wish to add any other activities to your Active Finland Adventure, please let us know. We could suggest for example exploring the Ruissalo island, doing a canoeing tour in the archipelago or a picnic cruise along Aura river or food or beer tasting in the city.
In the evening it’s time to travel up north, to Rovaniemi. Travelling by an overnight sleeper train is an experience on its own. Besides being the most sustainable way of travelling, overnight train also lets you spend the day to do actual touring, while saving money on your accommodation. The journey takes about 12 hours. After your arrival, the next morning, in Rovaniemi, a driver will meet you at the train station and take you to your accommodation. As you will arrive early in the morning, the check in won’t be possible yet but you can leave your bags at the hotel and go out to explore the magical Lapland.
Day 7: Rovaniemi Highlights Tour
You’ll start your day with a tour of Rovaniemi city. Visit different points of interest and learn about the history, architecture and other aspects of local life. Afterwards you have a chance to meet Santa Claus in his village office, and visit the Official Santa’s Post Office where you can write and send letters to friends and family. After the post office, receive your certificate of crossing the arctic circle and of course you will have time for souvenirs and shops, there are a lot of them. Duration of Rovaniemi and Santa Claus tour is around 4 hours.
Free time: After the tour you can stay in Santa’s Village to explore it more or head back to Rovaniemi and visit the Arktikum museum. June till mid-July is excellent for midnight sun photographing and end of August till September is perfect time for Aurora hunting.
Day 8: Fatbike Tour
A great way to discover the Arctic nature is by fatbike. Breathe the clean air, exercise and admire the breathtaking Arctic wilderness. With fatbikes it’s possible to get further into the forests and see different sceneries than on a regular bike. Your guide will teach you how to handle your fatbike and also about the nature and life in Lapland. The duration of the tour is 2.5 hours.
