Frequently Asked Questions
Planning a trip to the Nordic countries or the Baltics with MonMon Travel? Here are answers to the questions our guests ask most often about booking, payments, what is included and traveling in Northern Europe. Can't find your answer? Contact us or call +372 56 956 991.
Booking Your Trip
The easiest way to start planning your trip is to email us at info@monmontravel.com or fill out our contact form. You can also call us at +372 56 956 991, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm Eastern European Time (EET/EEST). We usually reply within 24 hours on working days, but not on weekends or public holidays.
Yes. The tours on our website are sample itineraries. We can change the length of the trip, the destinations, the accommodation and the activities to suit your dates, budget and interests. Tell us what you have in mind, and we will put together a personal proposal.
The earlier, the better, especially for Lapland in winter. December is the first month to sell out, and glass igloos and glass cabins are often fully booked many months ahead. If you have set dates, we recommend booking as soon as you can.
It depends on the destination. Transfers and accommodation are always private, and so are the city tours in Helsinki and Tallinn. In the Baltics, all tours are private. In Finnish Lapland, most activities, such as husky and reindeer safaris, are small-group tours, and most of them can be booked as private tours at an extra cost. In Norway, small-group tours have up to about 15 guests. Tell us what you prefer, and we will plan your trip accordingly.
Payments and Cancellations
Every trip is different, so the payment terms depend on your travel dates, the accommodation and the activities. We send you the exact terms by email together with your proposal. To confirm a booking, we ask for a non-refundable deposit, usually 30% of the trip price. For trips with high-end accommodation, the deposit can be up to 50%. The remaining balance is usually due 60 days before your arrival. Please note that in December most accommodation is non-refundable, no matter when you book. You can find more details in our Terms and Conditions.
Payments are generally non-refundable, but the options depend on the tour and the local providers involved. Please read our Terms and Conditions before booking, and contact us if you need to change your plans. This is also why we require all guests to have travel insurance that covers cancellation.
Yes. Our trips are package travel under the EU Package Travel Directive. MonMon OÜ is registered in the Estonian Register of Economic Activities as a travel agency (registration TRE001055) and holds an insolvency guarantee, which protects your payments if the company becomes insolvent.
Your Trip
Our packages include accommodation, transfers, transport tickets, day trips, city tours and excursions as listed for each tour. International flights, meals (unless specified in the package), visas and personal expenses are not included.
No one can guarantee the northern lights, because they depend on solar activity and clear skies. What we can do is plan your trip to give you the best chances: several nights in the aurora zone, the right season and local guides who chase clear skies. Read more in our guide to the northern lights tours.
Yes. We always leave some free time in each destination, so you can add an activity, book a spa visit, wander around on your own or choose where to eat. We believe in slower travel, so you will have time to take it all in.
We do our best to accommodate dietary requirements, and in most cases everyone is well catered for. On some tours this can be more difficult due to their nature, so please tell us about your needs when you book.
Dress in layers: a thermal base layer, warm mid layers and a windproof, waterproof outer layer, plus a hat, mittens and warm boots. Many tours include thermal overalls and boots. See our guide on what to wear in Lapland in winter and our packing list for Lapland.
Travel Documents and Safety
Most travelers, including US citizens, do not need a visa for short stays in the Schengen Area. If you do need a Schengen visa, it is issued by the embassy or consulate in your home country. The EU also plans to introduce ETIAS, a travel authorization for visa-free visitors, including US citizens. Its launch has been postponed several times, so please check the official ETIAS website and the latest entry requirements for your passport before you travel.
Yes. We require all guests to have comprehensive travel and medical insurance, including international medical evacuation and cover for trip cancellation.
Getting sick far from home is never easy, which is why travel and medical insurance is required for all our guests. If you fall ill during your trip, we will help you get to the nearest medical facility so you can get the care you need.
