Lapland Holidays: Finnish Lapland Vacation Packages
Lapland Holidays Planned by a Local Expert
A Lapland holiday takes you above the Arctic Circle in Finland, to snowy forests, frozen lakes and fells, where you can ride with huskies, meet reindeer, stay in a glass igloo and look for the northern lights. In summer, the same landscapes glow under the midnight sun.
Our Finnish Lapland vacation packages last from 5 to 14 days and are built around Rovaniemi, Pyhä-Luosto, Inari, Saariselkä, Levi and Ylläs. Which Lapland Holiday Is Right for You?
Your First Trip to Lapland
Start with Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland and the easiest place to reach. The 5-day Lapland Winter Holiday Package covers the classics: a full day of winter activities, the frozen waterfalls of Korouoma Canyon and Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle. If you have a week, the Complete Finnish Lapland Holiday takes you from Rovaniemi to the fells of Pyhä and the Sámi homeland around Inari. Our most popular trips for first-time visitors are the Lapland Winter Holiday Package and the Helsinki and Rovaniemi Holiday, which combines Finland’s capital with Lapland.
Lapland With Kids
Lapland is one of the best family destinations in Europe: reindeer and husky rides, snow play and, of course, Santa Claus. Most family trips are based in Rovaniemi, where Santa Claus Village is open all year. The Arctic winter is cold, so plan short outdoor sessions with warm breaks in between and dress children in good layers. Most of our Lapland holidays suit families, except the Ultimate Arctic Adventure and the Active Finland Adventure. Snowmobile and cycling tours have age limits, and husky and reindeer sled rides are not suitable for pregnant travelers. Tell us the ages of your children, and we will adjust the activities. See our guide on what to wear in Lapland in winter.
Christmas in Lapland
December is the most festive and the most popular time to visit. Our Lapland Christmas Holiday combines Santa Claus Village, SantaPark and a husky safari with a stay in Levi. December sells out first, so book early. For more ideas, read Christmas in Lapland: everything you need to know.
Northern Lights Holidays
If the aurora is the main reason for your trip, choose a holiday with several nights in northern Lapland and guided aurora tours, such as the Lapland Northern Lights Getaway in Inari and Saariselkä or the 7-day Finland Northern Lights Tour. Read where to see the northern lights in Lapland to compare the regions.
Active Holidays
For travelers who want more than a day trip on the snow, the Ultimate Arctic Adventure combines a four-day ski expedition across the fells with a two-day husky safari in March and April, when the days are long and the snow is at its best.
Summer and Autumn in Lapland
From June, the sun barely sets and Lapland turns green. Hike in the national parks, visit the amethyst mine at Pyhä-Luosto and meet Arctic animals on the Lapland Summer Holiday or the Arctic Wildlife Tour. In September, the autumn colors called ruska arrive together with the first dark nights of the aurora season. Read why you should visit Lapland in summer.
When to Go: Lapland Season by Season
- December–January: the polar night (kaamos). The sun stays low or below the horizon, the light is soft and blue, and Christmas makes it the busiest season. Cold, dark and magical.
- February–March: plenty of snow, more daylight and often clear, cold weather. A great time for huskies, skiing and the northern lights.
- April: long, bright spring days on the snow, ideal for ski trips and outdoor activities.
- June–August: the midnight sun. Hiking, canoeing, wildlife and summer in Rovaniemi.
- September–October: ruska, the autumn colors, and the start of the aurora season, with northern lights reflected in unfrozen lakes.
Our founder's tip: Moonika's favorite time in Lapland is January, when the trees on the fells of Riisitunturi are covered in thick snow and frost. If seeing the northern lights is your main goal, she suggests February–March or September–October rather than November and December, which are often cloudy.
Where to Stay in Finnish Lapland
Rovaniemi
The capital of Lapland, right on the Arctic Circle, with its own airport and train station. Rovaniemi is home to Santa Claus Village and makes the easiest base for a first trip. Read our guide to the northern lights in Rovaniemi.
Pyhä-Luosto
A national park of old forests and fells south of Sodankylä, known for its amethyst mine, quiet slopes and dark skies.
Inari and Saariselkä
The far north. Inari, on the shores of Lake Inari, is the center of Sámi culture in Finland, while Saariselkä sits next to Urho Kekkonen National Park. Both are excellent for the northern lights.
Levi and Ylläs
Western Lapland's fell resorts, with ski slopes, cross-country trails and Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park nearby.

How Much Does a Lapland Holiday Cost?
Our Lapland holidays start at €950 per person for 5 days in summer and €1,450 for 5 days in winter. A week in Lapland with several destinations costs from about €2,375, and our 14-day winter tour of Finland starts at €4,925. International flights are extra.
What changes the price most:
- The season: December and the Christmas weeks are the most expensive and sell out first.
- The accommodation: glass igloos and aurora cabins cost more and are booked up early.
- The activities: multi-day husky safaris and private experiences add to the price.
- The length of the trip and the number of destinations.
Getting to Lapland From the US
Lapland is easy to reach from the US with one or two connections. Most travelers fly into Helsinki, Finland's capital, either nonstop or via another European hub. From Helsinki, it is a short domestic flight to Rovaniemi, or a scenic overnight train ride through the country. Lapland's main airports are Rovaniemi, Ivalo (for Inari and Saariselkä) and Kittilä (for Levi and Ylläs).
Plan two extra days for the journey and the time difference, and consider a night or two in Helsinki on the way. Our Helsinki and Rovaniemi Holiday combines both.
Lapland Holidays FAQ
It depends on what you want to do. December is best for Christmas, February and March for snow, daylight and winter activities, and June to August for the midnight sun. For the northern lights, the best months are often February–March and September–October.
Plan at least 4–5 days in Lapland, plus travel days. That gives you time for the main winter activities and several evenings to look for the northern lights. With a week, you can visit two or three regions, such as Rovaniemi, Pyhä and Inari.
Our Lapland holidays start at €950 per person in summer and €1,450 in winter for 5 days, excluding flights. A week with several destinations costs from about €2,375. December, glass igloos and multi-day safaris increase the price.
Yes. Lapland is much more than Santa Claus: huskies, reindeer, the northern lights, national parks, saunas and Sámi culture make it a great destination for couples, friends and solo travelers.
Often, yes, from late August to early April, when the nights are dark. The aurora depends on solar activity and clear skies, so no one can guarantee it. Several nights in the north and a guided aurora tour give you the best chances.
As early as you can. December sells out first, and glass igloos are often fully booked many months ahead. For February and March, booking several months in advance is a good idea.
