Baltic Holiday Itinerary

Baltic-holidayOn your arrival at the airport a driver will wait for you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it and will drive you to your accommodation. The journey takes about 20 minutes.

If you arrive in Vilnius early, you can immediately start exploring its charming Old Town, admire the stunning baroque architecture, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of this historic city. If you’d like to add any additional tours or activities to your Baltic holiday package, please let us know.

Baltic-holidayDiscover the old and new sides of Vilnius with a local guide.  Vilnius is a charming city full of history, culture, art, quirky neighbourhoods and cool and happening bars and restaurants. The UNESCO listed Old Town is one of the world’s largest surviving medieval old towns, full of  Baroque, Gothic, Neoclassical, and Renaissance architecture. Wander around the UNESCO recognised Old Town, filled with magnificent landmarks and have the chance to really get in touch with the vibrant culture of Vilnius. Have the local craft beer at our favourite cafe, try some Lithuanian specialities and fall in love with this fascinating city.

Baltic-holidayFree time: After your tour you will have some free time to explore Vilnius in more depth. Head out to Europe’s most creative community – the Republic of Užupis which has its own constitution and president. Visit the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights (KGB Museum) which was originally the KGB headquarters and prison, it was also the site of torture and execution, so some people might find the prison a little overwhelming. You may also wish to take a walk to reach places such as the Hill of Three Crosses or St Peter & St Paul’s Church – a white miracle of belief. Ask your tour leader for more suggestions on what to do in your free time. Alternatively these can be added as extra tours for an additional fee. If you’d like to add any of these to your Baltic vacation, please contact us for more information.

Baltic-holidayYour Baltic holiday and trip to Lithuania wouldn’t be complete without exploring the beautiful Lithuanian countryside. It’s time to visit a rural community center and learn about Lithuanian traditions by taking a hands-on workshop of old Lithuanian crafts. Have lunch and head on to explore the picturesque town of Trakai with a local expert guide by your side. Learn about the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, hear legends about Trakai Castle(s) and Lithuania’s affluent past. Enjoy a boat ride around the island and the castle and admire pristine nature and medieval atmosphere. The duration of the tour is about 8 hours.

Baltic-holidayGet ready for a memorable day, as you trade Vilnius for Klaipeda, with stops en route at the UNESCO listed pilgrimage site known as the Hill of Crosses and at the Cold War Museum. Hill of Crosses is a potent symbol of faith, hope and freedom and is one of the most important sites in Lithuania. The Cold War Museum is an underground missile silos labyrinth where you can learn about the Cold War period, propaganda strategies, consequences of the nuclear explosions and the life in the military base. The journey takes around 7 hours, including stops.

Baltic-holidayKlaipeda, the third largest city in Lithuania, and one of the most successful port cities in the Baltic Sea, is full of surprises. Its pleasantly homely old town is full of cosy restaurants, pubs and cafes. Formerly an important trading post with Germany, the city still exudes the instantly recognisable German spirit, with beautiful half-timbered houses dotted around the city. Klaipeda used to be a member of the Hanseatic League and is the gateway to the Curonian Spit – a long and narrow sand dune peninsula separating the Curonian lagoon from the Baltic Sea. Upon arrival check into your hotel, then head out to the waterfront and explore the Old Town centre, which features 18th-century wooden buildings and other historic monuments.

Baltic-holidayToday you’ll be travelling to the UNESCO listed Curonian Spit, a 100-kilometre sandbar, separating the mainland and the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic sea. With a local guide you will discover the scenic town of Nida with its Amber gallery, visit the tallest drifting sand dune in Europe and mysterious Hill of Witches and learn about the rich cultural heritage of the traditional fishermen’s way of life. This tour could be one of the highlights of your whole Baltic holiday.

Baltic-holidayIt’s time to travel to Latvia and Kuldiga with a visit to Liepaja along the way. During the tour in Liepaja, you will pass by outstanding examples of Liepāja Art-Nouveau architecture, enjoy the beauty of the Seaside Park, and feel the power of wind on the beach. After the stop you will head to Karosta which is the largest historical military garrison in the Baltics. It was planned as a completely autonomous area with its own infrastructure, electric power station, water supply system, church and schools. Under the Soviet occupation regime it was a closed territory, not even accessible to local civilians.  The journey takes around 7 hours, including stops.

Baltic-holidayKuldiga is the unpolished gem of Latvia, which preserves the charm of an ancient city with narrow cobblestone streets, old wooden buildings and the widest waterfall of Europe – Ventas Rumba. Before travelling to Riga, the capital of Latvia, you will do a short city tour of Kuldiga to learn about its history and main sites. After some free time and lunch you will head to Riga. Along the way you will have a chance to stop at the beach town of Jurmala and wander around on your own. The journey takes around 5 hours, including stops.

Baltic-holidayGet ready to explore this vibrant UNESCO listed old town with a local guide. You can find churches from the city’s origins, medieval buildings, unique examples of Art Nouveau, as well as centuries old wooden architecture and modern architectural there. Walk through the winding streets and cobbled alleys of the Old Town and discover the hidden past from 1201 all the way to the present day. This will be the perfect introduction to Riga and its people. Continue the tour to famous Riga Central Market which is one of Europe’s largest markets covering 72 000m2, built from five zeppelin hangers left over from the First World War. After the tour you will have a chance to stay at the market to explore it more and to have lunch there (not included).

Baltic-holidayFree time: In your free time head to the Art Nouveau district. Alberta Street is a good place to start and you can also find the  Art Nouveau Museum there.  If you’d like to see the popular tourism objects from a different angle, take a scenic boat ride around the canals. You may also wish to catch a show at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet or join an organ concert at the Dome Cathedral. Ask your guide for more suggestions on what to do in your free time. Alternatively some of these services can be added as extra tours for an additional fee. If you’d like to add any of these to your Baltic holiday, please contact us for more information.

Baltic-holidayToday you’re heading outside the city of Riga, to Rundale Palace, the most beautiful baroque palace in Latvia located near the town of Bauska (66 km South of Riga). The palace built in the 18th century is an outstanding example of the early work of Italian – Russian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli who has also designed the famous Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. The professionally renovated palace interiors are decorated with authentic 18th century furniture, paintings and china. The most impressive are the Golden Hall, the White Hall, and the bedroom of the Duke of Courtland Johan Ernst Biron. The duration of the tour is around 5 hours.

Baltic-holidayToday you will leave Riga behind and travel to Estonia, and its summer capital Pärnu. Along the way you will stop in Gauja National Park, perfect for nature lovers and anyone interested in cultural and historic sights. Plenty of hiking, boating and biking options can be found in the park. A visit to Cesis and Turaida castles are a must if you’re interested in medieval atmosphere and history. Different small producers and quaint villages are all waiting to be explored. For amazing views take a cable car ride over Gauja River and for the adventurers, visiting the famous bob-sleigh track and trying your hand in bobsleighing (open on weekends) is a must. Just let us know what you’d like to see and we will arrange the stops accordingly. The journey takes around 7 hours, including stops.

Baltic-holidayWe invite you to a tour of Kihnu with a local guide. We will tour the island by car or by bike and have a look at all the main attractions. During the tour, you will see and hear a lot of interesting facts about what is important for the culture of Kihnu: the language, traditional clothes, craft skills, preparing traditional dishes, animal husbandry and agricultural work, folklore, the church, singing, and dancing. We must definitely also mention maritime affairs, catching fish and seals, and overall, talk about life in the middle of nature. This regenerative travel experience lets you engage with local Kihnu community, learn about their rich culture, heritage, and a way of life.

estonia, tallinn, historic center-3744813.jpgIt’s time to travel to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Parnu and drive you directly to Tallinn. If you’d like to make additional stops along the way, please let us know. We could suggest the charming spa resort town Haapsalu. Narrow streets, charming restaurants and cafes, historic wooden houses and romantic seaside promenade are all characteristic to Haapsalu. One of the main attractions of Haapsalu is the medieval castle ruins which now houses a museum on medieval history. Alternatively it’s worth stopping at the Rummu Prison quarry, where half submerged buildings are visible in crystal clear light blue water. If you’d like to see the remains of Soviet military infrastructure, head to Paldiski. For nature lovers, a visit to one of the most romantic waterfalls in Estonia, Keila-Joa or Matsalu National Park is a must. The direct journey takes around 2 hours.

Baltic-holidayToday you will enjoy a fun and history-packed tour of Tallinn Old Town with a knowledgeable local guide. This beautiful capital is a lively yet peaceful, photogenic and charming city full of wonderful sights and rich culture. A city that combines the modern world with ancient churches, medieval streetscapes and noble merchants’ houses. The UNESCO listed Old Town is one of the best preserved Hanseatic town centres in the world. You will cover all the most important sights of this medieval city from the bustling main streets to less known side alleys. Discover beautiful old churches, unique merchant houses, historic town hall, and imposing city defences.

Baltic-holidayFree time: After your city tour head out of the old town and explore one of the surrounding neighbourhoods. Beautiful and tranquil Kadriorg park and palace, built more than 300 years ago on the orders of Russian Tsar Peter the Great. Vibrant Telliskivi Creative City with numerous design shops, restaurants, and cultural institutions. Rotermann Quarter, a former industrial centre turned into one of the city’s most prominent oases of modern architecture or a newest addition to the city – Noblessner seafront quarter. A former submarine factory, now a modern urban space filled with galleries, design shops, a marina, and restaurants perfect for admiring the sunset.

Baltic-holidayLeave the city hustle and bustle behind and get active during a bog shoe hike. The bogs are places very dear to all Estonians and have been part of our culture for centuries. Therefore one mustn’t leave Estonia before visiting a bog. The bog-shoe hiking in a bog takes you to places what otherwise would be inaccessible. We hike around the bog pools, admire the wildlife, climb the watch-tower and listen to mysterious stories and legends our tour guides tell about the bogs.

Baltic-holidayIt’s time to say goodbye to the Baltic States as you are taking a ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki. In the morning your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the port for your departing ferry. On arrival to Helsinki another driver is waiting for you at the arrivals hall and will take you directly to your hotel in the centre of Helsinki.

Baltic-holidayAfter arrival and a short break you will do a city tour of Helsinki centre and the UNESCO fortress island of Suomenlinna. This tour starts with the basics of Helsinki and Finland, takes you to taste the fresh local ingredients and ends at the beautiful fortress right in front of Helsinki. We will stop at the Old Market Hall where you can experience Finnish cuisine displayed in all its color, tastes, scents and nuances. We sample some essential Finnish flavors and you have a possibility to purchase more for later. The tour continues with a 20-minute ferry ride to Suomenlinna, the no 1. attraction of Helsinki. Your guide will reveal the secrets of this mysterious place.  The excursion ends on Suomenlinna Island, where you can stay as long as you wish and travel back with your ferry ticket (the one is given to you at the beginning of the tour). Please note that this is not a typical food tasting tour but a regular city tour with a few tastings at the market.
